Day 2: SHANGHAI

After breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up at about 8:30 at hotel´s lobby for our full-day Shanghai sightseeing tour. We will start with a visit to Yu Garden, a classical garden ranking among the must-see attractions in Shanghai. Dated back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and was owned by a government officer named Pan Yunduan, built for his parents as a place for them to enjoy a tranquil and happy time in their old age. On the periphery of Yu Garden is the old bazaar, where visitors can buy all kinds of souvenirs like foods, craftworks, and jewels. Then, we will drive to Jade Buddha Temple. This old temple was built in 1882, to keep two jade Buddha statues which had been brought from Burma by a monk named Huigen. The temple was destroyed during the revolution that overthrew the Qing Dynasty. Fortunately, the statues were saved and a new temple was built on the present site in 1928. After lunch at the local restaurant (incl.), we will visit Nanjing Road and the Bund. The 5.5-km-long Nanjing Road is China's premier shopping street, which starts at the Bund in the east and ends in the west at the junction of Jing'an Temple and West Yan'an Street. Today it is a must-see metropolitan destination attracting thousands of fashion-seeking shoppers from all over the world. The Bund is a famous waterfront on the west bank of Huangpu River and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai. Here, the charm of Shanghai as a bustling metropolis combining the century-old history and flourishing future is fully presented, making the Bund Shanghai a must-see attraction. You will be back at the hotel in the late afternoon at approx. 18:30.
